The Weekly Rundown: Django, Game of Thrones, & more

From time to time news items fall through the cracks. It’s up to the Weekly Rundown to pick them up, dust them off, and present them to you.

Welcome to Costco, I love you. Now fancy news crumbs rolled into a cookie.

Borat to star in a Motherf****n Tarantino Movie?

Sacha Baron Cohen is rumored to be in the discussion/courtship phase with Quentin Tarantino for a role in his upcoming film Django Unchained.

Sacha Baron Cohen is presently in post-production on the Larry Charles directed comedy, THE DICTATOR. Hillary Swank is expected to give it 5 stars.

M. Night gets a Caddie.

The Will Smith epic, One Thousand A.E., seems to be moving ahead as writer Stephen Gaghan takes another pass at the script. M. Night Shyamalan is set to direct the film which will star Smith and his son Jaden as two travelers who get stranded on an abandoned planet earth. I repeat, M. Night Shyamalan will direct Will Smith.

Kohan comedy gets another year.

Plenty of shows come apart at the seams but few do it in as entertaining a way as Weeds, which is why I was uber-livid at what seemed, at the time, like the most unfulfilling finale since The Sopranos just…

Luckily the sound of a fired shot won’t be the last murmur to escape Weeds, as the show has just been renewed for an 8th season. No word yet on a premiere date, but stay tuned.

War Machine, V-Mars, and Jean-Ralphio walk into an office building…

A new trailer for Showtime’s House of Lies has hit the interweb. Take a look and enjoy a glance at the TV return of Kristen Bell, the rise of Ben Schwartz (Ralphi-O!) and Don Cheadle having a damn good time screwing the rich. The show premieres on January 8th.

The best line? An executive asks Cheadle’s character where he got the stats from his presentation. “That’s FMA,” he says before breaking the 4th wall and turning to the camera, “from my ass.”

Games and their toys.

Dark Horse announced this week that they will begin making licensed statues, action figures, busts, and replica jewelry to coincide with the second season of Game of Thrones in the spring. What’s cooler than that? Maybe all the absolutely rad stuff we cram into our Geek Buying Guide, a gift guide that snuggles the nerdy heart and helps you pin down all your frosty holiday-time needs. Coming Soon.

Nova arrives.

You know those little, squat Super Hero Squad Marvel figures that you see on the shelf? You’re drawn to them, I know you are. Well, there is apparently an MMO game available for play at HeroUp.com and they just added Nova to the character list. So while you and I are too busy playing Modern Warfare or being disappointed by Goldeneye (I said it!) you might want to direct the little ones over.

Remember, if we do not teach the young people to worship comic book characters as we did and do how will we be able to have conversations with them in the future?
