Amy and Rory set to depart ‘Doctor Who’
“The final days of the Ponds are coming” -Steven Moffat
Young Amelia was the first person number 11 saw. The girl who waited and then the girl who followed him through all of space and time, her love Rory tagging along, growing into a man and a hero in his own right. Young Amelia is the tough and tumble Amy Pond now, a fine addition to the clan of companions that we have known in this incarnation of Doctor Who and the last. But all good things must come to an end and as Matt Smith said, “one has to remember that this show is about change and regeneration, and that’s what galvanizes it and pushes it forwards.”
Moffat made these remarks to the BBC following a screening of the upcoming Christmas Special, Doctor Who: The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe. Moffat was coy about the details of the Pond’s exit, saying “I’m not telling you when and certainly not telling you how –but that story is going to come to a heartbreaking end.” he later added, “the Doctor is going to meet a new friend – and I’m not going to tell you anything about he, she or it! Who knows? It is ‘Doctor Who.’ There’s a universe of people to choose from.”
This is, of course, sad news but hardly surprising after the way the last series ended. What’s your take on the departure of the Ponds, your favorite moment with Arthur Darvill and Karen Gillan, and who do you think should follow in their footsteps and run with The Doctor?
